home away from home with extras
Our second week-plus stay was as special as the first. Fishing, hiking, sunsets, and the peace and quiet between. Facilities are exemplary and owners responsive! The could easily become a home away from home for us.
PIECE OF HEAVEN
If you are looking for a peaceful getaway, cozy atmosphere, completely stocked cabin with everything you need +, visits from the friendly deer, beautiful sunset over the lake, stocked pond, clean well maintained cabin well this place is surely the one to visit. Every year us 5 sisters take our mom out on a trip and this is by far the best getaway we have ever had. The owners are so sweet and moments away if you need. The sunset view at the lake is priceless, sit back hang your feet in the water and just enjoy the peacefulness of Gods beauty all in one place. If you are looking for perfection well this place is as close as you can get to it. Much laughs on that back porch with the cozy fire pit and the surrounding of nature. We loved the outside lightning, being just women we felt completely safe in such a secluded area. We all agree that we will be back to visit this cabin again in the future. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful property with our family. I cant imagine anyone going to this place and not enjoying it as much as we did.
Mountain Paradise
Exceeded our expectations in every way. The cabin was gorgeous but not showy. I felt perfectly comfortable letting my dogs run in and out. My German shepherds sniffed out the lake before we could even unlock the door. They wore themselves out so much in our four day stay that they slept the entire way back to OKC!! We enjoyed swimming, fishing, hiking, and kayaking as well as time relaxing in the hot tub and by one of the two fire pits! The owners were attentive but gave us utmost privacy. This was our first vacation with the kids and dogs and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. We will treasure this memory and we are already making plans to come back. Places like this are few and far between!!The pond/lake is a good half mile from the property. We were happy we thought to bring our golf cart. I personally liked that it was a ways away so the dogs weren’t constantly wet. We had the perfect weather. No humidity. No bugs. This place would be beautiful in all four seasons.
Wonderful Family Vacation
This cabin was wonderful for a relaxing family vacation. The fishing, swimming, canoeing, RELAXING, and ATV riding on the many trails made this a perfect stay. We will definitely be back to this one soon for some more great family time.
Serene Vacation
Cabin had everything. It was very quite and beautiful location. Would stay here again.
Dream Getaway!
What a wonderful place to escape from it all. Beautiful and quiet, with a little something for everyone. Enjoyed the fishing, hiking, quiet evenings, and mostly the relaxation! For us, everything was just perfect! Mary is so friendly and helpful. We will definitely come back and hopefully be able to stay much longer!
This is a beautiful property and very relaxing. The owners take wonderful care of the house and land! It’s a very quiet retreat and was exactly what we were looking for. We will be coming back for sure!
I do not like reviewing places like this because it lets everyone out there know how great a find this cabin is. That is very selfish attitude though and the owners deserve to get a great review. The cabin is just awesome. The beds are very comfortable and the location is secluded and very quiet. We came here to attend a memorial service and this cabin just turned out to be the best location to relax after such an emotional day. We thank Mary for allowing us to stay at her cabin. We would love to return during the spring or fall for another visit.
Owner Response
Thank you so much for your kind words. You were great guests and we look forward to having you back in the Spring or Fall!!
We absolutely loved this place! It was secluded and just what we were looking for. The views were breathtaking and amenities were well met. A huge plus was that we were able to take our dogs who are family members to us. We hope to come back in the near future. My family still talks about our vacation from here :)
Owner Response
Thank you so much for your review and nice words about our property!! Mary Kelley
This private getaway just south of Mena, Arkansas, is the epitome of a relaxing vacation. With the private 210 acres nestled among the Ouachita mountains, the property lends itself to a secluded, peaceful retreat. The trails throughout the property (perfect for our Honda side-by-side and hiking) and the 12 acre lake (perfect for fishing or kayaking) gave my husband and me the perfect backdrop for our rare time together. In addition to the trails and stocked lake, the seclusion of the three bedroom cabin itself gave us the peace we needed to feel rejuvenated. The awesome hot tub and main bath Jacuzzi bathtub helped ease tension from our everyday lives back in our world at home. Sitting outside on one of the three decks gave us time to connect while drinking coffee in the mornings and eating a quiet dinner in the evenings. The remarkable cabin also included a well-stocked kitchen, making our dinners a pleasure to prepare. Everything was available, from cookware to seasonings. The living area was more than comfortable and was a great place to unwind in the evening. Sunset Cabin is well-worth the drive to unwind and relax. Although my husband and I were on an anniversary trip (23 years!), the cabin easily can accommodate a larger gathering with each floor having its own bedroom. We plan on returning to this incredible retreat during the early summer with my sister and her husband. What a place to "getaway from it all"!
Owner Response
Thank you so much for taking time to give us a review! And a great review! 😊. My husband and I are thrilled that our cabin and property gave you the “get away” that you both needed!!
If you are looking for a quiet getaway with nature and all the comforts of home, this is it! Gorgeous cabin and so many decks with a hot tub and a hiking trail to the lake made it so perfect. It was a girls' getaway but will come with family next time to make some more special memories. For the rate and amount of people you can entertain, I don't think you will find any better deal. You will not be disappointed. We brought our own food and had enough for the 5 days we stayed. With a fully stocked kitchen of everything else, it made it easy to cook. I highly recommend this to escape the reality of things for awhile!
Owner Response
Thank you so much! Many blessings!!
We have stayed a few of these types of vacation rentals, and commonly while towels, dishes, cookware, etc. are provided, they are generally not great quality. I was impressed, not only by how lovely the cabin was, but also by the quality of the items provided by the hosts. Everything was exceptional.
Owner Response
Thank you so much, Suzanne!! We hope that you can return sometime in the future. We appreciate the review!!
We had a wonderful time at this beautiful cabin! Plenty of room for everyone, lots to do or nothing at all if you choose! The sunset over the lake is beautiful! We swam and also caught lots of fish! We took a couple of short drives into the town of Mena for shopping and once for breakfast - lovely little town with friendly people! If you like privacy and getting "away from it all" - this is the perfect spot! Mary was so friendly and answered all our questions - we didn't experience any problems at all during our stay! Adults, kids and even our dog love it here! We hope to come back soon!
We stayed here to get away from the hussle and bustle. The cabin is so cute and quaint. The private lake was the cherry on top. My husband loves to fish so he really enjoyed this! My complaints are there wasn't a spectacular view from the cabin, I really wanted to sit out and sip my morning coffee and enjoy the scenery but it was just tree's with no mountain view. Also I really wanted peace and quiet and you can here the cars from the freeway as well as the train came through on a regular basis throughout the day and evening. One last con, there was only a small fire pit on the deck. Other then that our trip was awesome and I would recommend this cabin to anyone. Mary was above friendly to work with! Really enjoyed talking with her.
The place is immaculate. It offers any and everything that anyone from the city needs to "rough it" in the country. Very secluded and has areas to bring ATVs if your into that. While you could possibly bring your Sedan I would suggest arriving in a truck or SUV. We have a 4x4 FJ so it was no problem. There is one area where the pond seeps over into the dirt road that I could see a car having possible issues. But hey, your in the country, GET A TRUCK OR 4x4! All in all this place has it all. It was just for my wife and two dogs and we kept saying that we could fit nicely with two other families. The back deck is really large and the hot tub was nice. We will be back with ATVs and possibly one or two other couples. Owners were very accomodating and were readily available should we have needed them.
I spent a long weekend with my family at this cabin. It was clean and nicely furnished. The property is very pretty, with plenty of room for my kids to run around and explore. The deck is huge and very nice to relax on. Also, the sunsets are in fact beautiful.
This cabin is by far one of my favorite places we have stayed in (and we have rented many). The inside is VERY clean and has everything you could want. It is very well stocked with all kitchen items, linens and supplies. The outside had ample seating, the decks are amazing and the hot tub was so relaxing. There is a short walk thru the woods to the water, which was perfect. We all enjoyed using the kayaks and dipping our feet in the water. We are city people so we were not brave enough to jump in but the water was very warm! We caught a lot of very nice size fish and even spotted an armadillo. Mary was very friendly and prompt to deal with. I would definitely return, and recommend this to all. THANK YOU!
My husband and I spent our honeymoon at the cabin. We wanted peace and quiet to relax and recharge. The cabin was a perfect place to do just that, the property was secluded and absolutely beautiful and the cabin had all of the comforts of home. We will make the trip from Louisiana again, worth it. Jeff & Stacy Hebert
This is a cabin is wonderful! It is very spacious. It is secluded just enough but still within driving distance to some cool state parks, hiking and dining. But also enough to do in the cabin and on the property, that you do not have to leave once there. There is a beautiful private lake to watch extraordinary sunsets! The Owner were so nice to work with! Thank you for letting our fur baby come!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Sunset cabin. It is a very relaxing and secluded property and just what my family and I needed for a week's vacation. We planned on being more active, but soon realized that the cabin drawn us in the just chill out. We will be back!
The cabin was beautiful, well done and well stocked. The deck is fantastic and we spent many hours out there. The pond was great to go play in. The location is awesome, you are far enough not to be bothered with sound but within miles of town for necessities. We hike a few trails in the nearby National Forest and all around had a great relaxing weekend with family. Would recommend to anyone who wants a peaceful place to gather.
First time at this cabin - and it will not be the last! This is an amazing property. Our family of four, plus two dogs, were looking for a place to enjoy the outdoors, with some privacy. This cabin offers it all, providing all the amenities as described. Walks along the trails around the property and around the lake were cherished. Our girls talking about the next time we visit Sunset Cabin. Mary and Don were most accommodating in our late arrival, even turning on the lights for us. Highly recommended.
Had a really great time here! One of those places you arrive and hate to leave. The cabin was everything I expected and so much more. Had everything we needed. The lake was gorgeous! We took full advantage of the boats...our son will have memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your little piece of heaven for a few days!! We will definitely be coming back in the future
Beautiful cabin on a large plot of land to explore and be surrounded by nature. Saw lots of migrating birds stopping by the lake, deer, an armadillo, snakes, frogs and more during our early April visit. The house and hot tub were clean and well stocked. We enjoyed exploring the trails with the kids seeing the different animals and tracks, and kayaking on the lake. The owners were nice and even checked for, and then went and got some life jackets that would fit my kids when they didn't have enough on site to fit them.
My husband, myself and our 3 dogs just stayed at this property and it was true to its description. Very nice, well taken care of and definitely secluded as we were looking for. It was supplied with every amenity you would need; especially making a Thanksgiving feast! I am very thankful to the owners for allowing our pets to come as it is very hard to find a property willing to accept house-trained dogs!
We live in the city and have busy lives. We needed a getaway and this house was the perfect spot. The house is comfortable and has everything you need for a weekend or a month. There was not a thing that was missing. The land is gorgeous and we had fun hiking around the property, fishing and canoeing on the lake and relaxing in the hot tub. We hope to come back again.
When looking for a cabin in Arkansas I wanted to be in or very near the mountains, be secluded, and have a good amount of privacy with good scenery. The Sunset Cabin gave us all of the above. My wife and two kids, ages 4 and 9, immensely enjoyed our stay. The cabin size and layout was perfect for our family. We enjoyed the amenities such as DISH Satellite TV, WiFi internet, stocked kitchen, hot tub, beautiful outside deck with nice deck furniture and the grill. We also enjoyed very much the outdoors with the forest of trees surrounding the cabin and the property with a very long winding gravel road that led up to the cabin. It was neat to drive on this road as it takes you around a small lake and offers very scenic views of the property. The lake was nice and we were able to swim and get out on it with the provided paddle boat and kayak. Try to catch a sunset while out on the boat. Very beautiful view! Although we did not have ATV's there were some neat looking trails that you could explore on. The owners Don and Mary Kelley were a pleasure to meet and were very accommodating. They really go above and beyond with everything they provide you at the cabin. Before we left we were already planning our next visit and when we would be able to come back. We hopefully can look forward to a fall visit next time.
We had 4 adults and 4 children stay here and it was absolutely perfect! We had all the extras that we needed, and were completely relaxed here and at home. The cabin was just as wonderful as the pictures make it seem - and the lake was very clean. It's a private lake that is fed by natural springs and we enjoyed fishing and boating on it as the water was too cold for swimming. The owners were very friendly, and I would highly recommend this to anyone!
This house and property went beyond our expectations. We also have a vacation rental and know what a big deal it is for the owner to provide all the extras that they have for renters. The house had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable. It rained most of the time we were there, but sitting in the hot tub in the rain made it not so bad. Very relaxing. We caught a couple of fish in the massive pond despite the weather also. We brought our side-by-side and enjoyed the trails near by. I can't stress enough what a deal this place is, you get so much for the money! We can't wait to come back.
This was a great vacation spot. The covered porch allowed us to enjoy the peace and surroundings during the rain. Everyone enjoyed the lake with the boats and life vests provided. The fishing was fun too. We would love to return to this great cabin.
In a single word, Amazing! We booked the cabin based on the location, seclusion and the nearby Wolf Pen Gap. My wife and I along with her 2 sisters and husbands, enjoyed our stay immensely. The cabin is the perfect size for a large family or several couples as was our case. The kitchen is well stocked and seemed to be the most visited place. (we like to eat) When we weren't eating you would find us relaxing outside on the covered back deck or enjoying the calming waters of the oversized hot. The property itself is well maintained with spectacular views. We enjoyed the canoe and paddle boat as well. We brought our ATVs and enjoyed nearby WolfPen Gap as well as the many trails on the property. If you like to enjoy spending time outside and being a part of God's spectacular creation, then look no more, this is the place for you. We look forward to returning again soon. Thank you Mary for making our stay one we will never forget.
What a Godsend!! We spent the last 4 days here on our honeymoon. The owner, Mary is so helpful and kind. Her hens lay wonderful eggs by the way. The house is immaculate. Eat off the floors clean! Comfy beds and fresh linens. The hot tub was wonderful under the full moon. There is even a jacuzzi tub in the main bath. The balconies offer the best views of the most magnificent sunsets you could ever imagine. The kitchen is wonderfully apportioned with all the cookware and utensils you could ever use. The trails were fun on ATV and walking. What a wonderful respite from our busy stressful lives. Don't change a thing! Thank you! We will be back again and again!
